ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Malala Yousafzai are among the ‘World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims’ 2017, published by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre.
Bilquis Edhi, the wife of the late humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi, has also been recognised for her philanthropy and charity work in the list by the independent research entity.
The list also names 33 Pakistanis including Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Emir Sirajul Haq, human rights activist and lawyer Asma Jahangir and Maulana Tariq Jameel.
The list acknowledges ‘influential Muslims’ for their contributions in 13 different categories including philanthropy, arts and culture, science and technology, politics and the administration of religious affairs.
Among the top 50 Muslims on the list are Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at number 28, Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan at number 32 and His Royal Highness Shah Karim Al-Hussayni The Aga Khan.
