The future of funerals? Robot priest launched to undercut human-led rites

Softbank’s humanoid robotic ‘Pepper’ dons gowns to supply cheap funerals whole with live-streaming choice

In Japan robots can function partners, helpers for the aged, leisure bots and even sexual companions, however now SoftBank’s humanoid robotic Pepper has put itself up for rent as a Buddhist priest for funerals.

Taking the German blessing bot’s concept and operating with it, Pepper’s new code will let it chant sutras in a computerised voice whilst tapping a drum, offering a less expensive choice to a human priest to see your family members off into the everlasting sleep.
